Who We Are

R. H. Perry Foundation Team

Robert H. Perry, Executive Director

Robert H. Perry established the R. H. Perry Foundation in 2007 as the capstone of his more than 30 year career in higher education executive search. Rob is also President of R. H. Perry & Associates, an executive search firm he established in Washington, DC in 1974 and continues to lead today. Since 1992, Mr. Perry has focused on presidential and chancellor search for colleges and universities. Previously, he held important positions at Colgate-Palmolive, ITT, and in 1972 served as a Fellow in the White House Executive Exchange Program. He is author of How to Answer a Headhunter's Call: A Complete Guide to Executive Search (American Management Association, 1984) and co-editor of The Executive Search Collaboration (Quorum Books, 1990). He has also written numerous articles on human resources issues in higher education in publications such as AGB's Trusteeship and The Chronicle of Higher Education. Rob is a graduate of St. Albans School and the University of North Carolina (B.S. 1959). He continued in graduate studies at both Chapel Hill and New York University.


Judith A. Perry, Vice President, IT and Treasurer

Judith A. Perry serves on the R. H. Perry Foundation Board as Vice President and Treasurer as well as providing IT and finance oversight to the Foundation's operations. Judy has served R. H. Perry & Associates as Vice President and Treasurer since 1997. Previously, she was manager of Fairfax County Government's Automated Systems Training Center. She was also an Educational Services Representative for IBM and a teacher at the American School for the Deaf. She is a 1961 graduate of Endicott College.


Lisa B. MacBain, Vice President, Foundation Relations & Programming

Lisa B. MacBain brings an extensive background in business development and contracting to the Foundation. She also has experience in non-profit operations and board development consulting. Previously she served as Director of Consulting Services at Gorman Health Group. In 1998 she co-founded and served as Principal of MacBain & MacBain, LLC, a management consulting firm. She is a graduate of Cornell University (B.A. 1974 and M.H.A. 1976). Lisa lives in Washington, DC.


Paul G. Doeg, Senior Research Analyst

Paul G. Doeg joined R. H. Perry & Associates in 2001 and has supported more than 120 of the firm's presidential and senior administrative searches. As a research analyst, Paul assists the firm in candidate identification, sourcing initiatives, database management, and due diligence. In 1992 he received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Virginia and is currently pursuing a Master of Science degree in Organizational Leadership at Regis University. Paul is based in Livingston, Montana.


Matthew J. Kilcoyne, Senior Research Analyst

Matthew J. Kilcoyne has been an important part of the RHPA team since joining the firm in 2002. From that time he has worked on over 100 presidential and senior administrative search assignments, focusing primarily on client marketing, candidate identification and management, and due diligence. Previously, Matt worked as a Marketing Associate for the private equity investment firm JP Morgan Partners. Matt received his B.A. from Georgetown University in 1993 and resides in New York City.

The following are senior level consultants representing a well-balanced mix of executive search expertise and presidential experience in institutions of higher education. Each of these consultants is available to the R. H. Perry Foundation on an as-needed basis.

Allen E. Koenig, RHPA Presidential Search Practice Partner

Allen E. Koenig has been with RHPA since 1993 and is partner-in-charge of the firm's presidential search practice. As co-founder and Vice Chairman of the Registry for College and University Presidents, Allen also oversees interim presidential placements. He was President of Emerson College from 1979-1989 and was president of Chapman University in Orange, California from 1989-1991. Prior to this he served in various administrative, teaching and research positions at the University of Southern California, The Ohio State University, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Eastern Michigan University, Capital University, and Marycrest College. Dr. Koenig holds degrees from the University of Southern California (B.A., 1961), Stanford University (M.A., 1962), and Northwestern University (Ph.D., 1964). Allen is based in Dublin, Ohio.


Neil A. Stein, Vice President

Neil A. Stein has led RHPA's non-profit sector practice since 1987. Prior to that, Neil had a 25 year career in service to the Federal Government. From 1972 to 1986 he was Deputy Executive Director of the President's Commission on Executive Exchange. Before 1972, Neil was Chief of Staffing for the Agency for International Development (AID) and the Goddard Space Flight Center, a division of NASA. Neil received his B.A. (1961) from American University and M.S. (1967) from George Washington University. He is based in Rockville, Maryland.


Judith A. Brissette, Senior Consultant

Judith A. Brissette has been a senior consultant with RHPA since 1999. Previously, she served at Western New England College as Vice president for Administration and Planning and as Secretary to the Board of Trustees. Judy is an active member of the Massachusetts Association of Independent Colleges and Universities and is a frequent participant on accrediting teams for the New England Association of Schools and Colleges. She received the Distinguished Alumnae Award in 1997 from St. Mary Academy and holds degrees from Salve Regina University (A.B., 1965), from Rhode Island College (M.Ed., 1970), and from The University of Toledo (Ph.D., 1982). Judy is based in West Warwick, Rhode Island.


Bryan E. Carlson, Senior Consultant

Bryan E. Carlson joined RHPA in 2002. He is President and Chief Operating Officer of Collegiate Enterprise Solutions, Inc. (CES), and President of the Registry for College and University Presidents. Bryan was President of Mount Ida College for 23 years and led that institution through an extraordinary period of growth and transformation. Bryan earned his B.A. cum laude from Northeastern University (1967), and Ed.M (1968) and Ed.D (1971) degrees from Boston University. In 1996, he received the prestigious Bennett National Service Award. Bryan is based in Peabody, Massachusetts.


Larry H. Christman, Senior Consultant

Larry H. Christman has served RHPA on an "Of-Counsel" basis since 1999. Previously, Larry served as president of the Association of Independent Colleges and Universities of Ohio (AICUO) from 1983 - 1985. He was also Deputy Director for Strategic Planning at the Ohio Department of Development and a State Representative in the Ohio House of Representatives. He held teaching positions at Capital University, Sinclair Community College and Bluffton College, where he received his B.A. (1962). He received his M.A. (1963) from Ohio State University and Ph.D. (2003) from Union Institute. He also attended Harvard University's Institute for Educational Management. Larry is based in Worthington, Ohio.


Joseph M. Foley, Due Diligence Specialist

Joseph M. Foley has provided due diligence services to the R. H. Perry & Associates since 1996. Dr. Foley joined the faculty of Ohio State University in 1969 and served as Chair of the Department of Communication from 1985-1995. He also held teaching positions at American University and the University of Iowa. Joe earned degrees from Antioch (B.S., 1964) as well as the University of Iowa (M.A., 1966 and Ph.D., 1968). He resides in Columbus, Ohio.
