Each year we lose 25 of the approximately 4,000 institutions of higher education in America – they close their doors, lose accreditation, no longer grant degrees, or change identity through merger or acquisition. That number may not sound like cause for concern, but it is every bit of that and more because the rate of schools going under and/ or beginning their demise is increasing sharply.

Our Vision

Understanding the Need

There is a silent crisis in American higher education that has been growing for many years.  It is silent because we don't talk about it, at least outside of closed door meetings and one-on-one conversations.  The crisis pertains to Governing Boards of the majority of colleges and universities –  those below the top tier level and most critically those that are challenged or at-risk of failure.

The importance of governance has been written and spoken about countless times and in multiple ways, but it boils down to this:  the success or failure of a college can ultimately be tracked to the effectiveness of its Board.  Every year an average of nearly 25 colleges begin their demise – that is they lose accreditation, no longer grant degrees, or change identity, or shut their doors forever.  While that number may not sound like cause for concern, it is every bit of that and more because the rate is increasing sharply.

Our Mission

Our mission is to sustain challenged and rescue at-risk colleges and universities by implementing our state-of-the-art Governing Board Evaluation and Training Program and Trustee Search Service.

Our Vision

Our vision is to oversee the introduction and implementation – and over time institutionalization – of these new services for strengthening Governing Boards and, by extension, their colleges and universities thoughout the academy. We begin this process by ensuring that the institutions we serve will not need to call on us to assist in their next Board training session or trustee search.
